Napapijri: an Italian brand inspired by Scandinavia
History of the remarkable brand which has been producing upscale outdoor apparel over a period of 30 years
The Napapijri journey starts in 1987, in Aosta - a small Italian city which is located in the shadow of Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc. This area was always attractive for mountaineers and people who enjoy winter sports.
Starting with mountain ski spots
As a result, in the late 1980s a manufacturer of travel bags created the Bering Bag, a waxed canvas duffel bag marketed to travelers and outdoor lovers. The main idea was to make people understand that they can really rely on this product. It was named after the great 18th century Danish officer in the Russian Navy, Vitus Bering, one of the first men to explore the great expanse of Arctic sea separating Russia from North America. This is how the philosophy of Napapijri was grounded. It was a new meaning to outdoor apparel, combining innovative materials with a close attention to style. Today, the "Premium Casualwear" brand looks back to the great expeditions of the last century and the intrepid explorers who transformed their lives into unique journeys that inspired mankind.
Napapijri incorporates iconic imagery into its branding to accentuate the themes of travel and adventure. The name itself is a variation of the Finnish word for the Arctic Circle. Its logo is the company’s name rendered in half-positive and half-negative block letters to suggest the North Pole and South Pole in graphic form. The flag of Norway is also employed to evoke that country’s extreme conditions, dramatic landscapes, and tradition of famous explorers.
While developing the company began designing and producing clothing and accessories, making the product range more and broader. Tourists and explorers became brand’s main consumers. They liked its emphasis on comfort, style, and high-tech materials. The company’s business has developed from a single store in the Aosta Valley to a presence in 175 branded shops and more than 2,000 retail locations around the world. Napapijri clothes with “flag of Norway” logo are now a synonym for reliability and cold-weather protection. You can find a wide variety of Napapijri clothing at our store on Petrovsky Boulevard 21.
