Maison Kitsuné: gifted in all areas
We talk about the roots of the Franco-Japanese brand Maison Kitsuné, which confidently walks around the fashion globe

«I still have a lot to learn. This is so amazing and truly inspiring»
In 2002, Gildas Loaec, art director of the innovative group Daft Punk, and Masaya Kuroki, Japanese architect, set up their own record label in Paris. Named Kitsuné (Japanese for “fox”), with the logo in the shape of this sly and clever animal, the studio became a magnet for many bohemians of the world music stage. A whole lot of industry giants such as Hot Chip, Two Door Cinema Club, La Roux, The Klaxons and Crystal Fighters, had their releases on this label. Few years later, in 2005, Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki introduced their first clothing line with an unconventional French-Japanese name Maison Kitsuné, “house of the fox” in English. The brand went off up a storm – residents and visitors of the fashionable Place Vendome appreciated designers’ approach who decided to open a boutique in the very heart of the conservative part of the French capital. Monochrome garments, ironic prints, plain cut, natural fabrics and democratic attitude – that is what the city lacked so much.
As early as in 2014, Maison Kitsuné made its successful debut during New York Fashion Week, while capturing new territories catching the fancy of high societies of Hong Kong, Berlin, Barcelona and Brussels. The brand builds its showcases not only on the fashion aspect, but on the background music as well, thus with its roots in mind. Gildas Loaec personally visits the greatest cities of the world, playing DJ-sets and introducing capsule collections that were specially delivered for a certain city. The brand is still working with basic clothes, steadily mixing preppy aesthetics with recognizable French design. By the way, Maison Kitsuné team is not ready to rest, currently revealing their gastronomic talents: Café Kitsuné has already become a local place of interest not only at the brand homeland, but in Tokyo as well.
