Diemme: conquering the city tops
History of the brand made to provide comfort in mountains, a well as in the streets
A short while ago, we told you about Nemen, a highly interesting brand that can be referred to the so-called “new Italian wave”, that is to say, youthful companies drawing on experience and Italian traditions to deliver advanced products. Their signature feature is that the pieces are entirely hand made at the trusted factories, providing perfect execution and quality control. Today we talk about Diemme, a company being a little older than Nemen, but still a beginner by the standards of major fashion houses.
Being in focus
Diemme was founded by the two brothers, Dennis and Maico Signor, both keen on footwear. Their passion didn’t come out of nowhere, of course, though the traditions had much to do with that. The truth is the Signor brothers’ native town, Italian Montebelluna, has been known as the largest hiking boots manufacture spot for ages. Everything began with the Second World War when all the factories were concentrated in Montebelluna due to logistics reasons. In peacetime, all the plants weren’t only maintained, but developed as well. After the Technica company invented plastic moulding technologies in the 70-s, leather was not used in ski footwear any more, which only strengthened Montebelluna. Today, the region is rich in the number of brand and manufacturers based there, including Diemme.
Dennis’ grandfather had worked at shoe factories from of old, hereat his grandson sucked in all the important knowledge from the earliest age. At the age of 13, Dennis assisted in hunting boots making, while a few years later, in 1992, he got his first order from the German chain. After successfully completing it, Dennis realized that the full-fledged business was right around the corner. The company name, Diemme, didn’t take much time to choose either, being the stylized sounding of the brothers’ names first letters, D and M. The quality of the products was so high that even the most renowned brands were among the clients – Maison Martin Margiela, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, and such iconic Japanese companies as Nonnative and Victim.
Growing and conquering the streets
The retailers did see the potential either. In 2007, the Japanese distributor GMT helped Diemme to turn hiking boots into everyday shoes giving them a more stylish look and replacing sole with an impressive white one. Then in 2010, the Norwegian distributor Blender Agency gave the company its ultimate start in life, which made a final adult life entering for Diemme. Collections twice a year, product expansion, accentuating collaborations with stores, with Brandshop being one of them.
Diemme brings the “less is better” principle to perfection. The factory is able to deliver no more than 80 thousand pairs a year, while some Chinese productions see it as a pilot batch. Every pair takes an hour or more, featuring manual work of 30-40 employees, and not even employees, yet devoted and experienced craftsmen. Coupled with uncompromising attitude towards materials selection and continual pursuit of innovations, here we have one of the most remarkable Italian brands of today.
