Extra Butter x Diadora: cinema on feet
The latest Extra Butter x Diadora release aims at providing comfort while plunging into the history of a signature Italian genre
The sports brand Diadora keeps working together with the New York store Extra Butter. The Extra Butter x Diadora Titan II “Spaghetti Western” collaboration set the stage for the long-term and productive relationship, hereat today we welcome another release dubbed Extra Butter x Diadora N.9000 “Giallo”. Again marked with the honorable “Made in Italy” title, the sneakers propel the concept to the next level.
Why Extra Butter
N.9000 “Giallo” are not just an echo of two different concepts clash, rather a reunion of identities. One of the most popular sneaker boutiques in New York, the Extra Butter store has not made its name for nothing. Along with the widest selection, Extra Butter relies on the store design and style both built around minimalism and films of different ages. The remarkable atmosphere of the store has easily attracted lots of sneakerheads, yet the most important aspect is the focus of Extra Butter founders on building natural customer engagement where one would feel a part of community rather than a stranger. Handpicked stuff together with regular events dedicated to various local affairs have allowed the boutique to make part of the New York scene with lots of sought-after and limited releases. Small wonder Extra Butter inhouse collaborations draw much attention as they feature a great deal of the store nature.
What is Giallo?
As one may guess, the Extra Butter x Diadora N.9000 “Giallo” release finds inspiration in cinema. Italian for “yellow”, the word “giallo” in itself specifies a pretty narrow subgenre of Italian films sprung up from pulp fiction in yellow covers. These are horrors combining elements of crime thriller and erotic, yet far from every horror film of the kind is worth calling giallo. Plenty of bloody murder scenes with the slayers wearing gloves, shot from every angle, is pretty much one of the giallo key features. The golden age of the genre was the 70-s and early 80-s, while Dario Argento became its identity making such films as “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage”, “The Cat o’ Nine Tails”, and “Four Flies on Grey Velvet”. By the way, similar titles make an inherent part of giallo as well.
Dedicated to the release, Extra Butter together with Diadora have done a series of movie shorts copying the key details of giallo movies of the 70-s.
Focus on the visual aspect of giallo has made it possible to reflect this particular genre style in the Extra Butter x Diadora N.9000 “Giallo” collaboration. The range of red, purple, and orange colors the retro-silhouette of premium suede and leather, while smaller details in perforation and delicate logos in the back of the sneakers add to the whole image. Specifically designed insoles, labels, and box itself allow catching the spirit of Extra Butter and Diadora. Made in Italy, each pair comes along with two extra pairs of shoelaces.
