ASICS x Solebox: inspired by the nature itself
An in-depth story of a collaboration between a famous Japanese sports brand and a contemporary German sneaker boutique
The Berlin-based sneaker store Solebox delivers the sample resulting from the collaboration with ASICS designers team based on GEL-Lyte III model dated 2012. These long preparations for the release are fully justified – what distinguishes Berliners is the thorough approach not only to the collaborations but to the clothing selection available at the store as well. Solebox has actually completed two tasks at a time – the team has got the release into shape while creating buzz around it.
This time, the designers of the two companies inspired with the colors of the carpenter bees that mainly inhabit Australia. The name of the insects originates from the fact that they build their nests in the hollows of the trees, bamboo and wood conduits. Moreover, these bees have an extraordinary coloring that allows them to disguise in the rich flora of Oceania.
The sneakers are executed of premium suede and nubuck. The materials coloring stands in contrast with the small white and blue pieces that imitate blink of the insect wings and body. The traditional lacing with plastic elements provide better foot fixation. The sneakers sit atop multilayer rubber sole enhanced with GEL cushioning and plastic pad in the heel area for better stabilization. The release also features the print of the carpenter bee and the Solebox store logo.
