ASICS × Solebox Blue Carpenter Bee Part II: Blue Bee’s comeback
Telling about a sequel to the cooperation between a famous Japanese sportswear brand and a conceptual German sneaker shop
Sneaker shop from Berlin called Solebox takes it to the new level in this year. After successful work with adidas at Ultra Boost Uncaged becoming a sensation among sneakerheads, the brand set the trend of “tubeless” models and now the Germans ignite our interest in finally arrived release of Carpenter Bee Part II.
As it was in previous work, the designers of two brands were inspired by an unusual colour of the blue carpenter bee’s body (Latin for Xylocopa bombylans) which dwells in Australia. We should remind you of the name origin: the insects nests are hollowed out in wood, bamboo or wooden buildings while their colour helps them hide in a rich flora of Oceania.
This time the ASICS designers turned their attentions to the more contemporary – Gel-Lyte Runner relaunched again in 2012. This model now is in premium lifestyle segment but initially it was a common one. There’s no denying cause this is a result of a long experience in designing iconic running models with the traditions and high-quality materials. So the upper is made of perforated suede combined with reliable goatskin. Colour is the reflection of insects’ nightlife – the time they spend most of their lives in activity. Dark colourway perfectly contrasts with small white-blue inserts imitating wings and body gleams which bring us to the first release. Of course, there is the GEL technology rubber sole. The sneakers are covered by ASICS and Solebox logos and sold with additional pair of laces with reflective effect.
